Project: Limey
By rambo
Worklog: Here
A limey is a term us Brits are often tagged with thanks to a method for preventing scurvy in the 1800s when lack of fruit in the diet that contained vitamin C was found to cause the disease. Those in the senior service were given limes to prevent it rather than lemons as limes were cheaper. Unfortunately they contained less vitamin C so eventually lemons were used like everyone else.
Not much has changed there then (lack of helicopters comes to mind) but we certainly won't be taking offence to rambo's awesome scratch build in the making. Not only do the early renders of the case and its bright green colour scheme look spectacular, but some parts he's already made, specifically a hard drive cage, are simply awesome.
Above we can see these renders which are impressive on their own and show a pretty large green beast with a bent in kind of design which has a certain elegance about it. We're certainly liking what we're seeing so far!
Above we can see the frame coming together which will support the outer shell which will be made of fibreglass. On the right is a custom made motherboard tray which looks decidely swish. A massive amount of work went in to both of these parts too so make sure you check out rambo's
project log to see some of his awesome handiwork and attention to detail.
Now for the best bit of the project so far. As shown in early renders in his project log, Limey will feature some pretty cool hard drive mounts. Rambo managed to grab some time on a milling machine and started fashioning the various parts of the mount.
Here's the finished artcle and we have to say it's one of the most impressive hard drive mounts we've ever seen! Not only does it look great but rambo even included rubber grommets to reduce vibration as well. There's some seriously good stuff going on in this project log so make sure you add it to your favourites.
